EAST STROUDSBURG – Paced by a career-performance beyond the arc from David Duda Jr. and a double-double from 2021-2022 PSAC East Athlete of the Year Carlos Pepin, the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team picked up its sixth consecutive win to start the season with a 92-60 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday night inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors (6-0, 2-0 PSAC) remain perfect through the first stretch of conference play. The Mountain Cats (5-3, 1-1 PSAC) suffer their first league loss against the Warriors.
Notables
- Duda Jr. surpassed his previous career-high of 19 points, which he set against Mansfield last season. The native of Collegeville was nearly unconscious from 3-point land, sinking 6-of-8 attempts from beyond the arc. Overall, he made 7-of-9 attempts during his 18 minutes on the court.
- Pepin posted his second double-double over his past three contests, scoring 18 points while bringing down a season-best 13 rebounds. He also distributed four assists, and posted a block and steal. He sunk all six of his free throw attempts.
- Jaelen McGlone also reached double-figures with 10 points. The Rider transfer pulled down five rebounds, posted two assists and earned three steals.
- Justin Paz and Mike Millsip each added nine points. Paz led the squad with five assists and turned the ball over just once. Millsip was a menace, tallying four steals.
- Coming off a dominant win against Clarion, where it allowed the fewest points since 2008, the Warrior full-court press was impressive once again. ESU registered a season-best 17 steals, and forced 22 turnovers, posting 20-plus turnovers for the fourth consecutive contest.
- UPJ was only able to shoot 37.7% from the field (23-61), as ESU has now held each of its past three opponents under 40 percent. In four home games this season, the Warriors have held the opposition to shoot just 19.8% (17-of-86), countering with a mark of 34.4% (32-96).
- In its six games to start the season, ESU is defeating its opponents by an average of 27.1 points per game (98.8-71.7).
- ESU led in most categories including rebounds (40-37), assists (20-11), steals (17-6) and points in the paint (50-26).
- The Mountain Cats posted a 21-9 record last season. ESU held NABC All-American selection John Paul Kromka to a season-low three points.
