Levon Aronian will take on Hikaru Nakamura in Round 1 as the 3rd and final leg of the 2022 FIDE Grand Prix begins in Berlin today, Tuesday 22 March. The 16 players, who also include Anish Giri, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Wesley So, are battling it out for up to two places in the FIDE Candidates Tournament, though it’s likely Richard Rapport, who has already played two events, will take one of the spots. Andrey Esipenko was a late replacement for Dmitry Andreikin.
