Gold is a resource used to buy hats, to build structures and Ranks to determine your score (the amount of gold you have is your score). Unlike other resource deposits, the gold ore does not suffer damage when extracted. Instead, it can be extracted infinitly until the biomes change, where it will be destroyed and randomized to a another location, with the exception of the massive gold ore, which always stays in the middle of the map.
